In November 2020, an Atikamekw woman in Northern Quebec died in the hospital after a video was published showing staff humiliating her with racist comments. The story sparked outrage and drew attention to the systemic racism that indigenous people face when seeking health care.

And in parallel, produced a series of stories for distribution on Instagram.

The investigative team had found 20 similar cases across months of research.

Publishing on Instagram allowed us to give each of these stories the visibility they deserved.

And to offer unique perspectives on these stories, such as the sheer distance separating indigenous people from basic health-care access.
The results were powerful, and the full production won the investigative prize at the prestigious Judith Jasmin journalism awards in 2022.
